Ethembeni Children's Haven was established in 2005 and is a non-profit making organistion.

How did the project come about, and how has it developed?

The first encounter was in 2005 when Pastor Jeremiah Zulu picked up 11 children from the traffic lights who were dirty and begging for money in every passing car. The family of Zulu cared for the children in their own home, until they decided to start a centre.

Currently it has its own place, which was formerly Pastor Zulu's home, where 36 children are housed and cared for. All of them are enrolled in school and some have been re-integrated to their families and community.

The organisation is now fully community based and registerd as an NPO.

The land has been donated to the organisation by our local Municipality.
